Svalbard reindeer and ptarmigan

Svalbard reindeer are smaller and fatter than mainland reindeer, with stubbier legs and smaller ears to protect them from the cold. They also have huge eyes, to be able to see better in the dark winter months when the sun does not come out.
Svalbard ptarmigan are actually a bit larger that their mainland relatives, probably also to preserve heat. These birds are not afraid of people, and can be approached very closely.
