Description
A regular visitor to our garden is the great spotted woodpecker. These handsome birds are quite noisy and not very shy. I just love their mottled black and white coats, with a dash of red below the tale and head. Younger animals sport a red cap on top of their head, which I
could not resist painting. This one sits on an old tree trunk, ready to dig into the bark with its strong beak, looking for grubs and larvae.
